I’ve had my eye on this toy for a while, and I entered an online competition hosted by Rocks-Off to see if I could win myself one. And I only bloody did! I have to admit though, I was dubious.

See, the RISE is an up-to-date version of the Hand Solo – a toy that I didn’t really rate all that much a while back. Whilst the concept was pretty good, the overall delivery just wasn’t enough to ‘Awaken my Force’. But when I looked at the RISE, it looked like it had addressed a few of my issues with the original Hand Solo – and I was prepared to give it another chance. I’m a nice guy, after all.

I was genuinely surprised when my prize turned up. Rocks Off had said they would sneak a few extra goodies in for me (I expected like a pen, a T-Shirt, a badge… you know, that kind of thing). Instead I got a box bursting with other Rocks-Off goodies:

Some of these goodies I will be reviewing (look out for reviews for the Ignition Rechargeable Bullet and the Wild Boy Prostate Massager) – others I think I will hold back and use as prizes for my 2nd Blog anniversary giveaway in May. We’ll see. But either way, I was throughly excited about the box of toys that were sat in front of me. The RISE however, was the star attraction, so let’s get straight down to brass tax.

First Impressions

The RISE is packaged beautifully – as soon as I got it in my hands, I knew this was going to be a completely different experience to the Hand Solo. The smooth black outer slip showcases the RISE on the front. Removing the outer slip reveals a sturdy keep-sake style box with a magnetic lid. On the inside of the lid you’ll find the user manual and a mini Rocks-Off Catalogue (nicely presented). There is a small box which holds the USB cable and underneath a little cardboard flap. emblazoned with the word RISE – is the toy itself, held firmly in place by some foam. The only thing missing from an otherwise well put together package, is a little storage bag. That would have made a whole lot of difference.

The RISE is made from 100% body-safe silicone and is fully waterproof, allowing for bath time or shower fun. It’s USB rechargeable and features 10 powerful vibration and pulsation settings. On a single charge, it will provide up to four hours of play time. Like the Hand Solo, it features an open channel in which you slip your member through, and a handle for you to slip your hand through for easy grip. The inside of the channel features a series of prominent ridges (which is far more noticeable than the little bumps of the original). Towards the top of the channel, is a prominent bulge where the bulk of the vibrations are targeted – allowing for frenulum stimulation. The vibrations are strong – much stronger than the bullet provided in the original – however I would say they are still perhaps not as strong as the PULSE, and they are a little bit more towards the ‘buzzy’ end of the vibrating spectrum, but I have to admit – pleasantly surprised. I was certainly feeling more excited about this as I went on having a poke and a prod.

In Use

The open face design of the RISE should make it compatible with almost any size – the silicone flaps on the side will expand to accommodate almost anyone. When it’s time to have a play, simply apply a small coating of lube to yourself, and to the inside channel of the RISE, slip yourself through and then using the button at the top, turn it on. There are 2 constant speeds (which I would class as being both ‘Medium’ and ‘High’ respectively) and 8 differing pulsations and patterns which again, all register at the ‘moderately powerful’ level.

When I first played with the RISE, I just experimented with the 2 constant speeds, as they are usually the ones that get me off the quickest. I lubed up, slipped in and turned it on – not expecting much to happen. Boy, was I wrong. Even though the vibrations are not as strong as they are in say, the PULSE, they seemed to travel really well through the entire toy – I could pretty much feel vibration all through my penis – which in turn, amplified the overall sensation. On the lowest speed, it took me about 6 minutes to achieve orgasm from start to finish, and on the highest speed – 4 minutes. That was without any other stimulation – just focusing on the sensation the RISE was delivering – and I have to admit, it was really nice!

The ribbing in the channel as well also provides some much better sensations, and I think it also helps get those vibrations into all the right spots. And the prominent bulge in the tip was massaging the frenulum beautifully. At this point, I didn’t care that the vibrations weren’t as rumbly as I normally like – it appears that when it comes to my penis, that’s not such an issue. Each session with the RISE ended with a strong, enjoyable orgasm. It’s definitely A LOT better than the original Hand Solo. The patterns are also pretty good as well, and allowed me to have an extended play session, but ultimately they all ended the same – with me panting and shaking with a great big grin on my face. Bravo, Rocks Off, Bravo!

Clean-up and Maintenance

As the RISE is fully waterproof, you can rinse through in the sink with some warm water and toy cleaner before drying and returning into it’s lovely box. I do wish that a storage bag had been included as with most silicone products, the RISE still attracts a fair bit of dust, but perhaps not as much as the likes of silicone by LELO or Tantus. As I mentioned earlier, the RISE will give you up to 4 hours of playtime on a single charge (which would take approximately 4-5 hours) which means I get plenty of sessions out of it before I need to recharge it, and as yet, I haven’t noticed any ‘loss of power’ as the battery drains away (which is another plus).

Summary

I’m really glad I won this, and now i’ve tried it – I can safely say that I would have had no hesitation in actually buying this. It’s definitely a significant improvement over the original Hand Solo. The vibrations are stronger, and travel much better through the silicone. The ridges and frenulum bulge offer enhanced stimulation and it’s pretty quiet too (no one outside the bedroom should hear it).

What I like about the RISE is it’s versatility. You can sit there and just let the vibrations to the work, or you can stroke and have the vibrations, or you can turn of the vibrations and just stroke – it still feels pretty good in my opinion. Due to it’s non-threatening size and shape (and the fact it doesn’t resemble a body part) – it’s a great toy for ANYONE – whether you are a seasoned professional toy owner like myself, or someone who is tentatively taking their first steps towards toy ownership.

As someone who has previously found some of the Rocks Off line to be too under-powered for my liking, this is certainly a step in the right direction and I for one, am extremely hopeful that we’ll start to see some USB rechargeable prostate massagers soon. Fingers Crossed!
