It’s been an absolute eternity since we reviewed anything for Hot Octopuss; and I have to apologise for the delay in getting this review out – but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… better late than never, am I right?

It was last year that Hot Octopuss reached out to ask if I would be willing to review 2 new products they were adding to their line up; the first was a new iteration of the best selling Pulse vibrating masturbator (review coming soon) and the second was the PleX (with flex) – the flexible butt plug with Treble & Bass Technology (something they introduced for the first time with the Jett). It had been a long time since anything had really properly ventured near my butt and the time felt appropriate to get back on the saddle… er, plug.

So how did the PleX do? Did it send my prostate to rock and roll heaven or did it drop straight out of the charts after just one week? There is only one way to find out… Ladles and Jellyspoons… give it up for PLEX!

First Impressions

Hot Octopuss have got their packaging down right – it’s simple, elegant with this sort of… tattoo-esque aesthetic with a subtle hint of eroticism on the top with a tasteful shot of legs entwined in black and white. Inside, the packaging is minimal with a simple tray that holds the PleX, the charging cable, remote control and a wee little storage bag (yes! we have a storage bag!).

So what is the PleX? It’s a standard butt plug design (with a tapered bulbous tip and a narrow neck for comfort). The plug contains the two motors that come together to create the ‘Trebel & Bass’ aspect. One motor (treble) vibrates at a slightly higher frequency than the other (bass); which has more of a rumble. When combined together, they create a unique concerto of vibrations designed to offer something a little more tantalising than just your basic motor.

The PleX can be operated either by the buttons on the base of the toy, or they can be controlled remotely using the remote control, which allows you to operate each motor individually.

Technical Details

The PleX has a fairly beginner friendly size; with an insertable length of 4.5 inches and a circumference of 4 inches at it’s widest point and narrows down to 2.25 inches at the neck, towards the base. Where the stem meets the motor, there is a small amount of flexibility (the Flex) allowing the PleX to move a little more freely when it’s inside. This means that you can insert and indulge in some more acrobatic bedroom antics, and it should move comfortably with you.

The PleX features 5 levels of vibration and 6 patterns (which can be switched up using a button on the base) – as far as I could tell, I could only only control the speed of the motors with the remote. The remote is a little fiddly to set up as the screw holding the battery compartment together is quite small and I had to search through the husbands infinite supply of screwdrivers to try and find the correct size. But a battery is already included; and you will need to unscrew the compartment as there is a little bit of plastic between the battery and the electronics preventing it from accidentally turning anything on.

In Use

When it comes to insertion; despite it being a while since I’ve properly indulged in some anal play; the PleX slipped in relatively easy with a good coating of lubricant. I’ve often found that when it comes to inserting vibrating toys like this, having it switched on it’s lowest setting seems to make it a little more comfortable and easier to insert – so a little tip there for you! Once it was inside, I lay on my back for a few moments, just to get used to having the PleX there.

To test out the ‘flex’, I sat up, stood up, walked around – just generally followed all the general motions that one might make in the bedroom when it comes to sexy times. And I can indeed confirm that is pretty comfortable. The profile of the base is also small enough that it could be worn discretely under clothes and it doesn’t feel like it digs into the cheeks.

The vibrations are moderately strong; not the strongest I’ve had but certainly not the weakest. The differing frequency of the motors do combine to make things feel a little more interesting, but I definitely found myself begging for just a little more power. However, things definitely got more tantalising once I started masturbating. I was lying on the bed, with the PleX doing it’s thing. Some gentle clenches pulled the tip of the vibrator closer to my prostate and it felt nice. But as the stroking intensified, I found myself clenching and pulling the PleX more intensely and before I knew it, I was collapsing in post-orgasmic bliss.

Clean-up and Maintenance

The PleX is completely waterproof, making clean-up and absolute breeze. Once clean and dry, it can be stored alongside the remote and charging cable in the little storage bag. The PleX requires a charge of about 4 hours, which will give you around and hour and a half of play time. The PleX is coated in silicone, so can be quickly rinsed before used to get rid of any dust (or stray pet hairs).

Summary

In a nutshell; the Hot Octopuss PleX hits a lot of the right notes; it’s comfortable and offers a little spice to your next masturbation session (or if you like to pop one in during sex, even better – hand the remote over to your partner and let them take control). I do wish the vibrations were a little stronger; also I did note that the Bass vibrations were nice and rumbly on the lower settings but as soon as it hits the top level – it shifts from rumbly to a more hollow buzz – takes me out of the moment a little, so end up running it on the step before.

The remote control is also a little too small for my own personal liking; I mean, I have pretty big hands anyway – but once you get a little bit of lube on them, I found it almost impossible to keep hold off, however I did discover that the remote fits inside the wrist-strap that came with the Pulse Solo Lux – so great if you already have that – but if you don’t, it’s smaller size can be trickier for those of use with bear paws (and it’s prone to being lost in the bed as well!).
