As it’s been a little while since I’ve posted, and is most likely going to be another few days before I get another post out, you’re going to get 2 reviews today as it’s my day off, and I have nothing better to do. However this review does come with a slight tinge of sadness – you see the lovely Donna from Vibrator Kingdom has had to close shop (not good) – however, during her closeout, I was able to pick up this cute little dildo with 40% off (yay!).

BS Atelier is another little company that produces artisanal silicone toys, kind of like Tantus – only these guys are based in Madrid. BS Atelier is another company that I always hear good things about, it’s just a shame that not very many UK retailers stock their products. I have no problems going direct – i’m just impatient, and it usually arrives quicker!

First Impressions

The ‘Alex’ is one of BS’s signature dildo’s – and it usually comes in a variety of colours. Packaging wise. they take a very simple approach – the dildo arriving in a clear plastic back with a tear-away strip. When I unwrapped this and placed it on the bed, Elphie (my dog) thought I was about to give her a treat – and to be fair, it does kind of look like a dog toy, and it’s packaged like a doggy treat – but this was definitely not for her.

The ‘Alex’ is quite small and under-stated in size, being similar in dimensions to the ‘Throb‘ by Tantus. Alex stands at about 6 inches tall, and has a circumference of 3.5 inches round it’s narrowest point and 4.5 inches at it’s absolute widest. It feels similar the the Vixen Leo (as in it’s soft and flexible). It has a somewhat ‘realistic’ shape with a pronounced coronal ridge – but that’s it. There is no texture or any other additional anatomical features. Judging by the base (which is lacking a suction cup), it looks like it would be compatible with harnesses for strap on play.

Inside the bag, you also get a sample of ‘Yes’ water-based lubricant as well as a small little ‘instruction’ leaflet which details that water-based lube is best, and how to clean and store the dildo after use. Oddly enough, I actually quite like how this dildo was packaged – it’s cute, and shows off the ‘Alex’ in all it’s glory.

How To Use

Based on it’s size, the ‘Alex’ would make a fantastic beginner’s anal dildo – it’s stature is not at all intimidating. The tip of the dildo has a nice, tapered tip which will help with insertion. Although the silicone here is not the silkiest, so without lube, there is a fair bit of drag – so you’ll want to use plenty, to ensure a smooth ride.

That being said, as I’ve said many a time before – I don’t always want to be stuffed full when I’m using dildos and plugs. There are times when I just want something a bit smaller and simpler, something that doesn’t require lots of prep or working up to – you know, those times when you just want to get off and then get out the door because you’ve got work, or something… you know?

So with the ‘Alex’ I’m pretty much able to just jump in straight away with a good squirt of water-based lube and very minimal effort. The dildo slides in easily, and because it’s so soft, it feels like it melts inside me. And then it rests against the prostate. The great thing about the ‘Alex’ is it’s size and weight. Because it’s quite small, I can lay back and use it like I would an Aneros device – just lie back and clench and bring it in closer to the prostate.

Of course, thrusting with it is just as satisfying – but I definitely prefer to let my ass do all the work, and have my hands elsewhere – they’ve got more important things to be focusing on. Despite it’s small size, it still feels really nice inside, and the curve is perfect for reaching the all important p-spot. This also means that it’s supposed to be very good at providing g-spot stimulation for the ladies – although I have no experience in that field.

Those who are far more advanced when it comes to anal play will definitely find this doesn’t satisfy your appetite, and the base just may not be big enough to ensure safe anal play – however, I’m not at the point where I need to be using larger toys all the time – I still like the smaller ones (as does my husband) so intermediate players may still find some good in the ‘Alex’ yet.

Personally, I like to use the ‘Alex’ more like a plug than a dildo – it’s the right length to provide some direct prostate stimulation, and I can use it hands free, allowing me to stimulate myself elsewhere.

Clean-up and Maintenance:

The ‘Alex’ is a complete and utter dust magnet, so a good rinse before use is definitely recommended. Silicone really is such a great material for sex toy use, as it can be cleaned so many different ways, and because of it’s non-porous nature, it’s completely body safe. Boil it, bleach it, bung it in the dishwasher or just rinse it with water and toy cleaner – they will all work to keep your ‘Alex’ shiny and new. With care, these toys should last a lifetime. I would be tempted to keep this in the original packaging – to try and help keep the dust at bay between uses.

Summary

Well I will be honest – the ‘Alex’ didn’t completely blow my mind – but you know what, that is absolutely not a bad thing at all. Sometimes, a toy can be so over-whelming that you don’t really get a chance to stop and enjoy the whole experience. The ‘Alex’ is a sophisticated little dildo that hits all the right spots, but doesn’t make a song and a dance about it. It just gets on with what it’s supposed to, allowing you to just lie back and focus on all the pleasurable sensations.

If you are looking for a first dildo, you cannot go wrong with this. It’s just a shame that not many UK retailers are stocking these bad boys. But don’t fret – you can still order direct.
