At long last, we have the first couple of reviews for MEO completed, and they are both lubricant based – which felt appropriate as we don’t very often review lubes and lotions – but that will change as of 2016 – I promise!
But let’s kick off with the review. I was contacted a little while ago by a german retailer called MEO who wondered if I would be interested in reviewing a couple of items for them. I’m always excited to work with new companies, and MEO certainly have a vast range of products, the majority of which do seem to be targeted towards gay men. And i’m cool with that. What I wasn’t expecting, was to receive every single item I had said I was interested in reviewing… and a load extra!

There was certainly enough there to keep me going – and reviews for everything will be slowly coming over the next couple of weeks, and aim to have everything up by the new year. I promise.
So, very quickly… who are MEO?
MEO have been around since 1997 and specialise in all manner of erotic fare. A large majority of their catalogue is made up of fetish wear, bondage gear and extreme kink – but you’ll also find a good mix of regular masturbators, dildos and butt plugs. There will be something for everyone – their motto is ‘Makes You Come’ – and so far, I cannot dispute that.
They provide discreet delivery and are extremely helpful when it comes to customer problems – they always respond quickly and promptly. Their prices aren’t the cheapest, but they are extremely competitive. If you’ve had trouble finding certain items in the past, chances are you can find it here.
So the Mr has made it quite clear to me, in the past, that flavoured lubes just aren’t for him. And to some extent, I would agree with him. They can be terribly sickly, and have a consistency that just not work well in the mouth. So I went into reviewing these with very low expectations…
First Impressions
The gels come in cute 30ml bottles, making them perfect for storage and great for taking away with you when travelling. Aside from the gratuitous name ‘Cock Candy’ emblazoned on the front, the bottles are relatively plain in design but colourful. Each one has a flip top lid which is quite stiff to open (but at least you know things aren’t going to spill easily).
There are 5 lip-smacking flavours – Pina Colada, Vanilla, Strawberry, Cherry and Strawberry Kiwi. Each gel has a different ‘colour’ and are all made from similar ingredients: Glycerine, Aqua, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Propylene Glycol, Panthenol, Sodium Saccharin, Citric Acid and Aroma (Flavour).
The gels are of a thick consistency, but spread out in use, so only a little is required to obtain maximum ‘flavour’.
In Use
The gels are very simple to use. Simply apply a pea-sized around over the desired area and then… chow down! Believe me when I say, a little goes a long way with these gels. When the Mr. was fully aroused, I applied a small dab of the gel to the tip of the penis and massaged it all along the shaft. As I brought my tongue to tip and gave a good lick.
Pina Colada
The Pina Colada gel has a rich, creamy white colour and consistency. There is the sweet aroma of coconut, along with the slight warmth of white rum underneath. The taste is sweet, but not sickly sweet. There is the expected artificial tang from the saccharin sweetner, but compared to other flavoured lubes I have tried, it’s moderately subtle (provided you don’t overdo it with the gel).
Strawberry Kiwi
This gel has a dark green colour, along with a very fruity aroma. Here, the gel tastes a little more like apples, than strawberry or kiwi. There’s a definite ‘tartness’ to the taste – so I do almost get the slight sharpness that I would normally get from strawberries. The scent reminds me of those gummy laces that you can buy in the pick and mix section of the local supermarket. Not too unpleasant.
Vanilla
Vanilla is always a scent/taste that is really difficult to re-create in this sort of format. They always smell very sickly and artificial – and sadly, here it’s no different. The aroma is very subtle – in fact it almost reminds me of cream soda. But the taste, however, is just sweetener. This one was just too much, and made me feel a little queasy, because it was just so sweet.
Cherry
The cherry gel smells to me, like cherry cola – which I love. It’s got a bright, cheery pink colour and smells so invitingly fruity. The longer the aroma develops, I start to smell cherry bakewell. Like cherries, there is an element of bitterness here, yet still manages to be sweet. This one got sticky really quickly.
Strawberry
Looks very similar to the cherry gel, but smells like a good strawberry jam. This one was probably my favourite, as out of all of them, it has the least ‘sweetener’ tang. It taste like strawberry jam, smelt deliciously fruity and tasted the most natural.
So did they improve on a regular blowjob? Well to some extent, yes, they did. For the most part, the flavours were subtle but pleasant. They were also great fun to smear on other sensitive areas like the nipples, and would be great to use when rimming (just providing you again, use a small amount). On the down side, once the gels have come into contact with saliva, they tend to become quite sticky, and that had a slightly undesirable effect on the penis which required a rinse before continuing with anything else. But, thanks to their water-based nature, they did rinse away quite easily.
Summary
So would I recommend these? Well, yes… I probably would. Please bear in mind though, that these are NOT meant to be used as lubricants – they really are for use during oral sex. They simply dry out and become too sticky to be used as a lubricant.
I would say these are definitely suited more for fellatio than cunnilingus. The majority of the ingredients may cause issues for those with sensitive vulvas/vaginas and are prone to UTI’s. If you don’t have any issues with those ingredients (not all do) then you should be cool to go ahead and give them a try too
However, compared to regular flavoured lubes, these taste so much better and will last for ages as just a small drop is enough to provide a decent amount of flavour. You can obviously apply more, if you wish – but i’ve found for the best BJ – just a small amount is enough. They smell really pleasant and can certainly make oral sex more enjoyable for the person giving as well as the person receiving. Simple, sweet but effective – however you definitely need a sweet tooth to truly appreciate these.
