I’ve been after one of these for absolutely ages. And I know I’m not the only one – the Liberator Fascinator Throe is generally highly coveted among the blogging community. And I’m so glad I finally have one.
This is the second in a series of reviews we’ve taken on for Liberator, and I have to admit, this was the one I was most excited about. When it arrived, I couldn’t wait to pull it from the box and have a good fondle and stroke of the soft material.
Whilst we’ve never normally been overly concerned about being too ‘messy’ in the bedroom, it was after a particularly vigorous session where I discovered I unfortunately didn’t have a spare set of covers clean and ready to place on the bed, so after having to endure that cold wet feeling all night I decided that something like this would be a good idea. I mean, we can throw a towel or two down, but let’s face it… it’s not very ‘sexy’; at least not for me anyway.
I would like to thank Liberator for sending us the Fascinator Throe free of charge in exchange for an honest review.
Throe VS Throw?
Just a small little addendum… so on the packaging, it calls it the THROW but on the website, it’s the THROE. So, i’m going with THROW when I am talking about it in general as a ‘throw’ but THROE when talking specifically about the Throe. Confused? Yep, so am I. Just go with it.
First Impressions
The Fascinator Throe arrives in a clear box with a cardboard slip around the throw. It features tasteful photography of some scantily clad models writhing around on the sheets (and I admit, I was very much looking forward to doing the same). We have the Throe in black, but it is also available in a gorgeous range of muted colours (purples, reds, browns). The Throe features a soft microfiber fabric on one side, and a soft satin silky side. In-between the layers is a moisture proof barrier, making the Throe waterproof (as it says on the back of the box, it’s perfect for squirters!)
The Throe we have measures 72” in length, and 54” in width. It’s also available in a King-size version, which is 76” in length and 80” in width. It’s lightweight as well, and would be perfect for taking away on holiday, as it just looks like a regular blanket, so it’s perfectly discreet.
In Use
The first time I took it out of the box, I threw it over the bed, stripped off and then just lay on it. Oh goodness, the soft fluffy side felt incredible against my skin. It was incredibly comfortable as well. I could have just lay there all afternoon, and I would have been perfectly content. But I knew I had to actually put the blanket through it’s paces (although honestly, whenever I have a bath, I just towel myself off gently and then go lay on the bed on the throw… heaven. It’s the simple things).
In a sexy setting, it really proves itself as a versatile throw. You can use it either side you like – the moisture barrier is in-between the two different layers – so if you want something a little warm and snuggly, then use the fluffier, fibre side. If you want something a little cooler, and more sensual then you can flip it over and slide all over the silky satin. It’s really dependent on your mood – mix it up and have fun!
We currently have a super-king size bed, and the Throe covers a fair amount of the bed, so if you have a smaller double or even king/queen size bed – it still covers more than enough. When thrown over the sofa, again, it provides that little extra protection (although our sofa is leather, a little spillage has never been a big concern) but for those with fabric sofas, it should also cover most standard size sofas.
When we used it on the bed, we preferred the softer side on top for two reasons – Firstly, it just feels SO GOOD on the skin. As we rolled around in each other’s arms, it just felt so warm and cozy. Secondly, when we were using the Liberator shapes (such as the BonBon and Wedge – review coming soon) – because the covers are made of a similar feel material, it kind of helped ‘keep them in place’ so they didn’t slide around the bed as much.
Usually, if we were messing around on the bed, if I spilled any oils or lube, I would get extremely annoyed (usually because the wet patch would be on my side and then I’d have to sleep there…) but here, it’s not a huge concern. And once we’re done being messy, I can just fold it up and put it in the washing machine. The beauty of the Throe is the fact that you can quite happily leave it out on display, so it’s ready as and when you need it. Providing you’ve got a complimenting colour scheme, it can blend in as a nice couch throw or even a little runner at the foot of the bed.
Unfortunately, neither my husband nor myself can squirt, however a spilled glass of water wasn’t a match for the Throe, and our duvet underneath stayed perfectly bone dry. Although the Throw wasn’t as pleasant to lie on afterwards when soaking wet… but at least I wouldn’t be sleeping in a freezing cold patch of water! Yay!
Clean-up and Maintenance
Once you’ve finished being messy – whether that’s in bed, on the sofa, on the dining table or in the back seat of the car – just simply throw the Throe in the washing machine. A cold wash is advised as best, but I’ve been using it on a delicate 30-degree cycle and I’ve not noticed any issues. You can tumble dry it on a low heat (although this may take a while). Thankfully we’ve had some lovely warm weather recently, so I’ve been able to air-dry it on the line for best results.
I will be leaving our Throe out on the bed as a decorative throw, but it does fold up away nicely for storage.
Summary
There’s not really a huge amount to say about the Throw, other than it looks gorgeous and functions extremely well. It certainly adds an element of luxury to ‘sexy times’ and its versatile finishes allow for all manner of different play and fantasy options. It’s not cheap, but to be honest, if you want something like a sex blanket, you really want something good quality. I’ve tried a cheaper option that felt like I was rolling around on a black garbage bag – which is fine if you like that sort of thing, but it wasn’t for me (especially as it kept sticking to me!)
This is the perfect look and style that can allow it to blend into your bedroom and no one would be any the wiser. It’s also light enough for travel and will provide enough coverage for most scenarios.
