Dual Density is definitely the way forward when it comes to dildos. I’m sorry, but I am officially driven crazy by their soft, yet firm squishiness – and for those that like their dildos to feel real, then this is what you need.

Of course, not many people are offering dual density silicones at the moment. Tantus have obviously championed it with their O2 range of products, and Blush Novelties have a line of dual density that are also pretty good, if not exciting in terms of design. Of course, what we really needed is one of the BIG THREE to step in and say ‘Hey, Dual Density for the masses….’ and Doc Johnson answered the call and launched the TruSkyn range of platinum premium silicone. The line up consists of dildos, butt plugs and masturbators (although the latter are not dual density, but still exciting!).

Naturally, I wanted to see how these would compare to the likes of Tantus, so I fired DJ an email and a couple of weeks later, a packaged arrived on my doorstep…

Subtlety is obviously not a strong point…

After giving the postmen a bloody good giggle, I opened the VERY SECURELY SEALED box with a chainsaw and pulled out 2 products – the Tru Ride which I am reviewing here and the Tru Touch. One is realistic, one is more ‘abstract’. Needless to say, I was still very excited at the prospect of using these. So how did I get on? Well let’s find out…

First Impressions

The packaging of the TruSkyn is exactly the same as their standard platinum silicone products – a simple white box with a picture of the product and a load of guff about how TruSkyn is designed to emulate the ‘tender feel of real skin’. The Tru Ride is an absolute BEAST. I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be as quite as big as it was. It’s not comically big – it’s about the same girth as the SAM, but much longer – although in hand it feels a hell of a lot bigger!

Visually, it’s pretty impressive and I would say it’s definitely VERY realistic. There is a lot of detail here – from the various skin folds and wrinkles, to the raised veins along the shaft. The frenulum is highly detailed as well, and you can feel all the ridges. It feels firm, and the outer layer of softer silicone is definitely squishy, and i’d say it was a touch softer than the O2 dual density. The tip is incredibly spongy but nicely shaped to aid insertion.

The dildo stands at 8.5 inches tall, and has an insertable length of 8 inches. The shaft is pretty even in girth as well; 5.5 inches at the tip and then 6 inches along the length of the shaft. That gives it the same girth as SAM but has an extra 2 inches of insertable length. At the base of the shaft, sits a pair of realistically textured balls, featuring all the wrinkles you would expect from a ball sack. It’s soft and squidgy here too, and I only wish they’d gone a little bit further and actually put a couple of firmer silicone ‘testicles’ in there. Maybe for the next model?

In Use

It’s taken me a little bit longer to get round to writing this review – with ETO and the new puppy addition to the household, things are topsy turvy but we’re getting back on track. As such, all of the tests of this have been solo, just me (boo!).

Due to it’s size, it’s definitely one that needs a little bit of warming up too. Much like the SAM, it took a couple of different sessions to get used to the size (as it’s not a size I use all that often, and I have to be TOTALLY honest, I generally tend to favour the slightly smaller sizes). There were several sessions warming up with the SUKO, the GARY and lastly SAM before I was able to tackle the Tru Ride in all of it’s realistic silicone glory.

There is a noticeable difference between the silicones here – the TruSkyn is definitely a little bit softer. Upon insertion, the tapered tip slips in comfortably and has a lot of give. As you get to the shaft, things firm up enough that it starts to provide a lot of sensation, but again, there is a mild amount of give so it never becomes uncomfortable. Due to the softness of the outer silicone, the veined texture on the shaft is lost, so there is no additional stimulation in the terms of texture, but to be honest, the sheer size of it was enough for me.

It left me feeling comfortably stretched and I felt very full indeed. As I slowly descended the length of the shaft, I could feel it brushing past all the sensitive spots. There isn’t a suction cup, nor does it have the option of using a vac-u-lock attachment with it either, so going hands free is awkward. Not impossible, but awkward. Once I had taken enough inside, I sat on the edge of the bed, so the entire shaft was now deep inside, and the soft balls were resting up against the perineum.

At this point, I decided to gyrate my hips, which meant the balls were now softly massaging my perineum. A little bit of lube there kept things nice and slippery. This is definitely a ‘slow’ thrusting dildo for me – Lifting myself up slowly, and gently before lowering myself back down had my knees trembling. The stretch for me was quite intense.

As I got more and more worked up, I lay on my back. The length and flex of the dildo meant I could lay on my back and still thrust my hips, which created the sensation of the dildo moving in and out, so my hands were free to explore elsewhere. The silicone warms up to body temperature as well, so the longer I used it, the more realistic it felt. I was impressed.

Clean-up and Maintenance

The dildo is dishwasher (top rack) safe, so it can be completely sanitised this way. Of course, you can bleach it and boil it as well or stick to good old antibacterial soap and water. When the dildo is dry, you may find that it feels a little ‘clammy’ – not, sticky per se, but it does have a slightly clammy feel, not too unlike the Suko. However, inside the box, Doc Johnson provide you with a little sachet of powder (corn starch) which if used, just gives the dildo a more ‘matte’ feel. It’s not necessary, it’s more a personal preference.

You also get a nice little storage bag inside the box as well, along with a bottle of TruSkyn signature glide. This is a nice little touch, however it’s a basic water-based lube that contains glycerine so may not be suitable for everyone. It’s also not the best lube either – so I would definitely recommend something else instead.

Summary

In short, I actually really liked this dildo, both visually and in use. I know there are loads of people out there who don’t like their dongs to look so realistic, but I am definitely one of those who does, and this one succeeds very well! It’s a good size for those who like a challenge.

It’s also cheaper than most larger, dual density toys. OK, so it doesn’t come with a suction cup and a vibrator, but you are getting a substantial piece of silicone that looks and feels amazing. There is also a nice storage bag and lube included as well. So in that respect, it’s amazing value. It’s also harness compatible (O-Ring) so i’m looking forward to eventually trying this out with my other half in our SpareParts Deuce harness (review coming soon).

Doc Johnson TruSkyn Dual Density Tru Ride Dildo

Those of who who don’t like the realistic aspect, don’t worry – Doc Johnson offer several alternatives that are more abstract in their shape and design. Likewise, they offer a couple of alternative ‘realistic’ designs, included a smaller 6 inch version, as well as a longer, slimmer ‘tapered’ version. There is something for everyone. Now, I only wish that some UK companies were stocking them, as these would sell REALLY well, and there really desperately needs to be more dual density widely available.
