Lovehoney Blowmotion 12 Days of Play Sex Toy Advent Calendar

We’ve got a first for TBGR this year! We’ve been blogging for over 8 years now; and we have NEVER reviewed a sex toy advent calendar. How is that even possible? I know, I’m struggling to find a reason but here we are. But that’s all about to change. 

A little while back, the good people over at Lovehoney had asked if I would be interested in reviewing one for them, and I leapt at the chance. There are 4 calendars available this year; the classic couples 24 day calendar, the 12 day Womanizer calendar (with toys aimed at vulvas), a 7 day lingerie calendar and then the subject of todays review: the Blowmotion 12 Days of Play calendar. I was so excited; I’ve opened many a chocolate advent calendar before (usually on the 1st day… oops) but never one full of sex toys!

We’ve been doing a countdown on Twitter as we opened the doors leading up to the review and now I’m going to give you my general thoughts on whether this calendar which retails for £95 (but has a value of £195) is worth it. So let’s grab a mulled wine and a mince pie and see what it’s all about!

First Impressions

When it arrived, I couldn’t wait to get inside; and the packaging for this calendar is beautiful. The choice of artwork; with this sort of celestial vibe is just really sweet – and it carries across all 4 of the calendars; so they match really nicely. The Blowmotion calendar is in a gorgeous deep navy blue with golden accents and on display in the bedroom, it looks fabulous and inviting. My excitement to just rip open the doors was at fever pitch. But no, we must do this one day at a time!

Now of course I had seen what sort of things were in there, as I needed to know which one would have been better suited for us to review; but I didn’t know what was behind what door (apart from the last one) and even then, I still didn’t know what they would be like once we started playing – so it was still quite exciting opening the doors each day. But let’s not beat around the bush any more – let’s start tearing open those doors!

Doors 1 to 4

We started off behind door one with a USB rechargeable bullet vibrator. This will be featured quite heavily throughout the review and it makes sense to get this as the starting door. The model in the calendar is a lovely gold colour, and similar bullets retail for £24.99. The bullet has 3 speeds and 7 patterns and I have to admit, I was not expected the bullet to be as powerful as it was. It’s no Tango but for a small bullet, to certainly packs a little punch!

Behind the next door, we have a open-faced textured stroker, similar to the Taco that we received waaaay back. It’s a floppy sheet of TPE that is textured and can be wrapped around the penis. The beauty of a sleeve like this, is that no matter how big you are – it will fit. It’s a basic texture but it feels pleasant (especially if someone else is doing it for you! Our third door yielded the first toy with which we could use our bullet with – a petite little butt plug. It measures 3.5 inches in length and has a circumference of 4 inches around it’s widest point.

It’s a perfect beginners plug, and the vibrations from the bullet do transfer surprisingly well through the gorgeous blue silicone. I need more toys in this colour because it just looks absolutely stunning. And as we come to the end of the first set; door four brought us a cock ring (that can also hold the bullet). It’s a basic ring and features some little nodules to add some texture. Truthfully, they aren’t thing we use often – but again, the vibrations are pretty strong and decent and I would imagine would provide some good stimulation during intercourse.

Doors 5 to 8

Behind door number 5 was a cute little egg stroker, very reminiscent of the TENGA eggs. These are designed to provide lots of lovely stimulation around the glans but they do stretch quite far; so you can use them to massage the length of the penis. These aren’t my favourite; but I do appreciate these sorts of things are perfect for tucking in a toiletry bag; if you want to sneak something discreet on holiday with you, or if you are travelling.

As we move on to door number 6, we reveal a set of anal beads that are bullet compatible. I was a little disappointed that this wasn’t in the same gorgeous blue as the other silicone pieces we had opened. But still, this is the perfect beginner size; with an insertable length of 5 inches and a circumference of 2.75 inches around the smallest bead and 4 inches around the largest. The silicone transmits the vibrations really nicely, and then the bullet does tickle the taint once it’s fully inserted. At the halfway point, I’m certainly enjoying the variety we’ve gotten from the calendar.

The next door featured a set of 3 silicone cock rings; again – they aren’t really something we use an awful lot, if at all. But I appreciated that they come in 3 different sizes and are all silicone (and have a good amount of stretch). The smallest has a diameter of 1.5 inches and the largest is 2 inches. Finishing this block is door 8 which featured a set of foreplay dice in a lovely black and gold finish. These are such a simple and fun way of mixing up your foreplay. One dice has some times (like 30 seconds, 5 minutes etc) and the other dice has actions (like ‘Stroking’ or ‘vibrating’). You can interpret these however you like but they can be a good way to break the ice or just help inject a little fun back into foreplay.

Doors 9 to 11

We’re into the home stretch and door nine features a sweet little prostate probe that’s designed to be used with the bullet. It has an insertable length of 4 inches and a circumference of 3.25 inches around its widest point. There is a slight curve in the shaft and there is a little bump in the tip. For me, personally, the size is a little too small for myself – but I did still enjoy the vibrations as once again; I’m continuously impressed with how decent the vibrations are for this little bullet.

Door ten and we have another bullet compatible toy; this time it’s a see through stroker. It’s quite small and fairly tight but it does stretch so even those who are slightly larger than average should be able to pop inside. This is one of my favourite pieces; those vibrations really do travel well through the sleeve. It didn’t take too long for it to get a bit messy. It has a penetrable length of 3.5 inches.

And the penultimate door saw us open a cock and ball loop – I’ve never used a cock ring like this one before; ever – and it was a very snug fit. I’m a little disappointed to have gotten two sets of cock rings in the calander; but then I was struggling to think about what else I would add instead. Then I thought maybe something like a little massage candle or a some lube or something? I think that would have rounded up the product selection in this calendar quite nicely. Maybe that’s feedback for next years…

Door 12: The Main Event

We had to give the final door it’s own section. The star attraction of this calendar is the Blowmotion Real-Feel Dual Entrance Vibrating Stroker. This discreet little masturbator features 3 vibrating speeds and 7 different patterns and features an open-ended design. It looks pretty smart and as a final door reveal; it’s a pretty decent one. Sadly, the performance of the toy is not up to my personal standards; the vibrations are a little lack-lustre and the sleeve is quite tight – not impossible for me to squeeze in, but anyone with a bigger than average penis may find this difficult or damn near impossible to get into. However I do think there are some folks out there who would and do enjoy this time of product (you can browse the review for this specific product on Lovehoney and make-up your mind). I do think it’s a nice addition to have in the calendar; it’s just not for me. In fact, I preferred doors 1 to 11 easily.

Clean-up and Maintenance

The bullet is waterproof, and so are all of the lovely attachments that can be used with it – so everything can easily be rinsed with some warm soapy water before being stored away. For the Blowmotion stroker; the inner sleeve does remove for easy cleaning and the case can be wiped down with a soft damp cloth. What would have been lovely to see with this calendar, would be… you guessed it… a storage bag! Something with which you can keep all of your new goodies together, safely. Of course it’s not a problem for a pro like me, who has storage coming out of his wazoo… But for who I think this calendars intended audience is… a little bag would have been nice. However if space isn’t a concern, the lovehoney advent calendar does have a decent magnetic closing on the lid; so you could keep everything inside the box if you wished.

Summary

As the first lovehoney advent calendar I have ever opened – I actually really enjoyed it! There’s a certain thrill about getting to open a sexy little something each day. The variety of products is pretty strong (for the most part) and they quality of the items inside is pretty good! I would definitely say this is aimed at folks who maybe don’t have the biggest selection of toys, or are indeed perhaps quite new – as the sizes of products inside are certainly more beginner friendly – and whilst I can use and enjoy them – I’ll certainly be moving on to bigger and better things in no-time.

But the design of the calendar is beautiful, the bullet inside is pretty darn good and I do appreciate the different attachments that you can use with it. The final door is a little bit of a disappointment – not because of what it is, but rather it seems a little restrictive with who can use it – and I definitely think the vibrations could do with improving. But what a fun way to build up your toy collection! I can’t wait for next Christmas!
