If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know i’m about more than just dildos and butt plugs. I bloody love a good, hot bath. And no bath is complete without a bath bomb. You could say I have an obsession….

So in an effort to diversify and attract new readers, i’ve decided that I will launch a weekly blog post dedicated to all things bath and shower. And this week, we are going to start off by reviewing one of my absolute favourite bath bombs – Intergalactic. This is a fairly recent addition to the line-up. It launched at the Flagship Oxford Street store back in April 2015 and was then filtered down into all other stars in the Summer Collection in August. It was an instant hit, and it’s not difficult to see why. So, why exactly is this currently one of LUSH’s best selling bath bombs? Well let’s take a look and find out….

First Impressions

The first thing that strikes you when looking at the Intergalactic, is it’s dark blue colour, which features swirls of yellow and pink. It’s bright, neon and inviting. The bath bomb is said to be inspired by the character of Star Lord from the Marvel comic (and hit movie) ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. And once the bath bomb has fizzed away, it’s easy to see why. But more on that later. The Intergalactic comes packaged in a paper bag which can be recycled or reused to store another bath bomb, when you’ve used this one.

Have a cold? Feeling all blocked up? Then you need this bath bomb. The main scent in the Intergalactic is Peppermint. It’s strong, fresh and will unblock your nose at 50 paces. But, it’s not sickly or overwhelming – because underneath that minty freshness is a base note of Grapefruit – giving it further ‘uplifting’ qualities. A dash of Vetivert and Cedarwood grounds the whole experience with a subtle musky smokiness. It’s one that truly needs to be smelled to be believed. The base of the bath bomb is flat, allowing it to rest happily on the side of the bath until you are ready to use it. So how does it feel?

In Use

Once you have filled your tub with lots of warm water, gently plop the bath bomb and watch it go! As soon as the Intergalactic hits the water, it sends out delicious and beautiful blue clouds into the clear water around it. It’s like an explosion of colour. As it submerges, it rotates, sending streaks of yellow and pink into all different directions. This creates some beautiful images atop the surface of the water (it’s not so hard to understand why bath bombs are popular with Instagrammers!).

As the water slowly turns a deeper shade of blue (oh my god, do you remember Steps?), there’s a feint sound of crackling – like the bath has turned into a giant bowl of Rice Crispies – That’s the popping candy! That’s right, in the core of the Intergalactic is little specks of popping candy which crackle and create and childlike sense of glee. It serves no real purpose but is a nice touch. Once it has completely dissolved, the water is awash with silver lustre, giving the effect of a deep night sky, with stars twinkling through it. It definitely feels like i’m looking through a telescope, deep into some uncharted galaxy.

Effects on the Skin

This particular bath bomb is definitely more about the scent and the beautiful colours it turns your bath water, rather than having any effect on your skin (which is fine, as there are plenty of others in the collection that will leave you feeling delicately soft and smooth). Here, however, you have a bath bomb chock full of peppermint oil. What this will do, is give you an ever so slight ‘tingly’ feeling – it’s almost ‘cold’ like. Which is why I absolutely ADORE using this in the summer on a REALLY hot day. It certainly helps me feel refreshed after a hot, sweaty and sticky day.

It’s also a great mood enhancer and perfect for those who are desperately sluggish at getting out of bed on a Monday morning and need a jolly good PICK ME UP!

Summary

I was a fan of this particular bath bomb before I even put it in my bath for the first time. The mixture of the peppermint and grapefruit certainly lifts my spirits and helps me clear my mind, so not only is it a great bath bomb for waking up, it also helps me on days when i’m feeling a bit stressed out. The colour is simply BEAUTIFUL in the water, and it’s SO SHIMMERY! Like, there is so much lustre in here, that you get out the bath feeling like Edward Cullen.

OK, well not really, but there is a slight twinkle on the skin (but DON’T FRET! The lustre inside is made from seaweed, so it rinse off really easily, and it won’t block up the drain or poison any fishes when it gets out into the water). If you like baths, bath bombs and don’t have a strong aversion to Mint or Glitter – then you definitely need to add an Intergalactic into your next bath.
