It’s very rare that a product leaves me perplexed and speechless. Sometimes it’s because a product is so unexpectedly amazing… or its because its so monumentally frustrating. Sadly, in this case – I think we are talking the latter. But it’s complicated.

I’ve seen this Orctan Rechargeable Silicone Roller Masturbator around for a while now. And quite frankly, when it first popped up in my periphery – I thought it was torture device. It didn’t look appealing or exciting; or like anything I wanted to stick my dick in or near. Give it a bit of time; and when Lovehoney gave the the chance to choose some products to review – I thought ‘Why not!’. It had over thirty 5* reviews; all praising it’s virtues and it’s mind-blowing orgasms. Sign me up!

When it arrived, I was impressed at how technical and fancy it looks in hand. A little less intimidating than pictures will have you believe. It looks like a machine that was crafted with care and attention. So I was hopeful that maybe this would be one of those ‘don’t judge a book’ type situations. So with great trepidation; I plugged it in to charge and waited.

First Impressions

The Orctan is packaged incredibly luxuriously, and for the price point of this – it should be the standard. The packaging and branding gives me ‘sports car’ kind of vibe. When you get the product, it is wrapped with cellophane so you know it’s not been touched. Inside the box, you’ll find the Orctan and underneath; a storage bag, instruction manual and the USB charging cable. The design of the toy is certainly interesting. Two silicone rollers sit in a hinged frame; one is smooth and the other is coating in lots of little bumps.

On one side, there are a series of buttons that seem to control the various functions. There are 9 massage modes and 3 power functions. It takes about 2 hours to charge fully, and that will give you around 60 minutes of play time. The hinge allows the rollers to move further or closer apart; in theory making this a flexible toy for most sizes. It’s certainly a unique toy and stands out amongst all other masturbator offerings. Further investigation would suggest that this device was invented by Michael Lenke; the inventor of the Womanizer – a product I know excited a lot of folks – so I was even more hopeful that we were on to a winner.

In Use

So there is a reason that I left this as the last review from our block of Lovehoney products. Because truthfully, I am so confused by this product. And even after using it SEVERAL times over these past weeks, trying to get it to do something – I’ve finally reached the point where I can say it’s not a product for me. That’s not to say that it’s terrible, because actually – there is a lot of potential here. It’s just, that based on how I get myself off – this just doesn’t work for me. Let me explain…

There is no ‘right way’ or ‘wrong way’ to use the Orctan – you are encouraged to explore placement of the device to suit your own pleasure style. So you can position the Orctan wherever you like and let the rollers massage your member. But ultimately, the size of the device means you are going to want to pick a spot; and as such the manual heavily labours the point that the frenulum is where your most sensitive nerves are – so it’s encouraging you to place the device there.

The idea behind the Orctan is that it’s supposed to replicate the sensations of oral sex. And for once, I will give that to them. When I have used it, and found the most comfortable setting – if you close your eyes – the sensation is somewhat similar. The rollers are designed to move in such a way that it almost creates that ‘sucking’ sensation. It sort of pulls you in and then pushes you out.The bumps on the textured roller do actually feel quite nice and provided you’ve used a decent amount of lube – it never feels abrasive.

My problem is that I just don’t ‘feel’ much, and therefore I just cannot get enough sensation or stimulation to orgasm. I just ended up feeling frustrated. When I try to close the rollers to create more sensation; the overload protection kicks in and stops the rollers (as they should!). But that means I have to ‘loosen’ their grip and I go back to feeling very little. It’s one of the only masturbators I’ve used that actually made me go flaccid; even when trying to use some spicy content to keep the mast up – it just made me lose er, focus.

I need more pressure, more sensation. Hell, if the rollers actually vibrated (and I mean PROPERLY vibrated) then I might have enjoyed it a little more and we may have even achieved an orgasm! But as it currently stands, the Orctan will never see the light of day again. And I am so disappointed.

Clean-up and Maintenance

Such a pricey and uniquely designed toy should be easy to clean right? I mean, if you’re going to build a toy as expensive as this, you’d make it waterproof… oh? Only splashproof? Thankfully the rollers can be removed for cleaning… however after ‘use’ they are quite slippery and difficult to get hold of. However once they are removed, they can be rinsed under the tap with some soap and then I leave mine to air dry as the silicone is an absolute dust magnet.

As for the main unit, then just a careful wipe over with a barely damp cloth will be enough. It cannot be submerged, so do take extra care when cleaning. Finally, we have a lovely storage bag to keep everything in! (Hurrah!).

Summary

It pains me to end our chunk of Lovehoney reviews on a negative; but like – I am still sat here, feeling genuinely baffled and confused – even now. I have to praise the design and build quality. And the concept… as I said – it really does set itself apart from the myriad of masturbators that are on the market. And I applaud anyone who tries to make something a little bit different. Sometimes it can pay off and sometimes… well, it’s clearly a very divisive product.

The Orctan is a marmite product, as far as I’m concerned. You are either going to love it or hate it. And I guess, for me… I would say I fall in the ‘hate it’ crowd. It failed at getting me off, and that’s the very least I ask from a device that’s supposed to… you know, get me off?! I think there could be a chance to save it though. Make some rollers with different textures; maybe add some proper rumbly vibrations and make it a little less cumbersome to hold and maybe; just maybe; you could revolutionise my next wank. I’ll be waiting.
