When I originally wrote this review, I stated that Glass and Steel were the only materials I will entertain when it comes to Dildos.

Well, that’s not strictly true anymore, now that I’ve given a silicone dildo a chance now. However, that said, Glass and Steel will always be preferred, just because they are so much more versatile.

Those familiar with the blog will know how much I love the Icicles range by Pipedream Products. I’ve reviewed at least 4 items from the range, and I have another 2 sat upstairs waiting to be reviewed. Now, UK based company Lovehoney are revamping their own brand of glass dildos, and when I was asked if I would like to test one out for them… well I couldn’t say no could I?

First Impressions

Like all Lovehoney branded products, the packaging is incredibly simple but somewhat elegant. It doesn’t rely on gimmicky images or stock photos of naked bodies to sell product. Just simple, wholesome branding that shows that what you are getting inside is a top quality product (and I have to say, I’ve never been let down by anything produced by Lovehoney).

Inside, the dildo is inside a black velvet bag, which is wrapped with foam to keep it safe during transit. The first thing I noticed when I took the dildo out of the packaging was that the supplied storage bag was perhaps just a little bit too small. When the dildo was inside, the tip stuck out ever so slightly, which meant when you tried to tie it up it slipped down, exposing more of the dildo, but also wouldn’t stay tight. When inserted into the bag upside down it was a little better, but the bag still didn’t do up. However, it’s not a major concern, just something I noticed.

The dildo is about 9 inches in length with a girth of about 3.5 inches around the spiral shaft, whilst the tapered tip has a girth of about 5 inches at its widest point. With that in mind, this look like it would be perfect for anal play, due to the bulbous tip and slightly curved shaft. In terms of style, it looks very similar to the Icicle’s No.5, which was my first glass purchase and one of my absolute favourites, so I had high hopes for this!

In Use

Due to the slightly larger nature of the tip, instead of going straight in I got myself warmed up with a plug first. When I was ready, I covered the dildo with a good helping of lube and began insertion. The tip actually went in far easier than I thought it would. I could feel it every so slightly stretching me and it felt wonderful! On my second try, I decided to not bother with the ‘warming up’, and actually, I don’t feel it was needed. Because of the slender nature of the shaft, the tip looks wider than it actually is – so it does generally insert pretty easily anyway.

As I got further in, the spirals around the shaft provided some wonderful feelings, outside as well as inside. It felt incredible to just lay there with the dildo inside, and then use my pelvic floor muscles to move the dildo by just ‘clenching’ or rocking my hips back and forth. The length of the dildo made reaching the prostate a breeze, and the size of the tip ensured that as large an area as possible was getting stimulation. For those of you reading with a vagina, I’ve been informed that this dildo is great for hitting the g-spot too (at at least that’s what I’m told anyway – have a look at these reviews to help make up your mind).

The best thing about playing with glass, is indeed of course Temperature Play. It’s great fun playing with it straight out of the box as it has a coolness about it already. However to really amp up the thrills, you can pop it in the fridge for about 30 minutes before playtime (NEVER put it in the freezer – not for a long period of time anyway.. I’ve heard horror stories of frozen dildo’s getting… stuck… in places…) and it provides a super spine-tingling chill. Or if you want something that feels a little bit more realistic (or you just want something a bit warmer now we’re heading into winter) then let this beauty sit in a bowl or sink full of warm water and then use – I can’t describe the feeling (at least, I can’t do it justice) so you really need to try it out for your self.

On of the other things that I think is great about these glass toys, is that actually, they can be great to use during regular erotic massage – especially this one. Combine regular strokes with the hands, with a turn with the dildo, using the bulbous tip to really get in there and work out those knots and kinks! It really works wonders – and especially if you team it up with the hot/cold temperature aspect – you can really set yourself up for an amazing evening of sensations – both internally and externally.

Clean-up and Maintenance

OK, so if you are really anal (pardon the pun) about keeping your toys really clean – then Glass is definitely for you. It’s non-porous, meaning it’s not going to trap any nasty smells or residue or bodily fluids – and it’s not going to leak anything out into you! So clean-up really is as simple as washing it with some warm water and some toy cleaner. Buff it with a lint-free cloth to keep it looking crystal clear and your done! Or, for those of us who perhaps might be a little bit lazy, you can even wash it in the dishwasher. Yes, that’s right – you can be cleaning your dildo’s along side your crockery (although personally, I think it’s best if you wash it separately…) – and of course, do make sure to check before you let any friends/family go hunting for mugs – this might give them a bit of a shock if they find it propped up on the top shelf… although you could potentially pass it off as just a REALLY TALL paperweight… (NB: No, I haven’t tried that yet – although I really do wish I could leave these out on the coffee table… they look to pretty to just keep stuck in a box all the time…!

Summary

I love this dildo. Good, satisfying length, and the bulbous tip is great for some G-Spot/P-spot play. Added with the versatility of being able to use ANY lube and also experiment with temperature play, a glass dildo is really a ‘must-have’ in anyone’s toy box. It’s a shame the little storage back that comes with it doesn’t fit perfectly, however I’m sure I have a couple of spare storage bags floating around, so it’s not really the end of the world.
